Great Pyramid of Giza

The first pyramid I visited was the Great Pyramid of Giza. I learned so much from the tourist. The Pyramid of Giza is the largest pyramid out of the three and stands at 481 feet tall. It was built by Khufu who you will learn about or have already learned about in Day 2. 2.3 million stone blocks, about 2.5 to 15 tons each build the Pyramid of Giza. The Pyramid has three burial chambers. I started at the bottom chamber which is underground and is carved into bedrocks. Then I went to the above ground chamber also called the queen's chamber. It is supposed to be for a sacred statue for Khufu. The third chamber was the king's chamber, which held a red granite sarcophagus placed almost exactly at the center of the pyramid. This was a huge building block because now they knew how to build huge pyramids efficiently. I chose this pyramid because it was the largest pyramid, and because it is one of the Seven Wonder of the World.
Pyramid of Khafre

The second pyramid I visited was the Pyramid of Khafre which was built by Khufu's son Khafra. The pyramid stands just 10 feet shorter than the Great Pyramid of Giza. It contains 2 different chambers. I first visited the subterranean which is carved into bed rocks. Then i visisted the second chamber. Its floor is carved into the bedrock while its upper walls and ceiling pierce into the base of the pyramid. Inside the pyramid I saw five boat pits. There was a sphinx at the base of the pyramid. I chose this pyramid because it was built by Khufu's son and it only stood 10 feet shorter than his fathers pyramid and I thought that was interesting. This pyramid was important because it was an elaborate complex which lead to more elaborate complexes
Pyramid of Menkaura

The last pyramid I visited was the Pyramid of Menkaura which was the smallest of the three pyramids. I visited the antechamber which leads out to different passageways. The next chamber leaded to the main chamber. There was one mysterious chamber that was known as the cellar and had 6 obvious niches. The main chamber had a niche in the ground which housed the original sarcophagus. I chose this pyramid, not because its the tallest one, but because it a sphinx at the base of the pyramid. This pyramid was important because it was sheeted in granite which eventually they used granite on other monuments.
The Temple of Luxor
![Picture](/uploads/2/5/7/2/25722315/7291022.jpg?274)
I visited the Temple of Luxor next. I learned that the temple was built by King Amenhotep III who built it for the god Amon-Re and his son Khons. The temple has been a place of worship. WHen you would first enter you would see an avenue of human head sphinx that looked like they went on forever. Then you would see the great court of Rameses II. On the left you would see the Nile Village known for holding celebrations. If you continue through the great court of Rameses II you will see papyrus columns towering over you. Amonhotep III court would be found just beyond the papyrus columns. The Hypostyle Hall had 32 papyrus columns and was located beyond Amonhotep's III court. I chose this pyramid to explore because it was the most interesting temple in my opinion. The Temple of Luxor is important because thats where all the celebrations happened.
The Royal Tomb
![Picture](/uploads/2/5/7/2/25722315/3822637.jpg?273)
I visited the Royal Tomb and learned so many things. I learned that the tombs were to protect the dead and provide the deceased with a dwelling equipped with necessities for the afterlife.THey put mummies in the tomb and stored them in there. Tombs eventually died out and graves replaced them because tombs weren't exactly the most convenient. The Royal Tomb was meant for the pharaoh's and the upper class people. The middle class and lower class would be put in less royal tombs. I chose this tomb because if the upper class people were put in this tomb it must be nicer than the other ones. The Royal tombs were important because that where all the dead people were put.
